Modern Music Opinion #2: I'm Tired of Taylor Swift Agenda
Yes, I have to address this before the Grammys
Now please listen and don’t judge. I’m not a Taylor Swift hater, but I’ve had it with all the promos.
I think every non-Taylor fan can relate to all Taylor’s versions taking over the charts but hearing her on the radio ended it for me this past Sunday.
You know how radios shift to their winter schedules. Well, I was waiting for “Last Christmas” to magically play while I was in a public restaurant. Lo and behold, Taylor Swift’s 2007 cover comes in. Mine you, that was Lite FM.
Fast forward, several hours later, I’m shopping for groceries and the same song pops up. That was SiriusXM. From research, I learned that program directors sometimes repeat the same artist for shows. But hearing the same agenda on similar stations made me see, how deliberate the Taylor Swift agenda is moving on.
It’s not like we haven’t been tortured enough with The Tortured Poets Department and all the album variants she made. Taylor Swift is an example of an artist who carries her name wherever she goes. The media just falls for her brand no matter the costs. We’re reminded just how much her Eras tour grossed in a two-year span. Even Rolling Stone magazine endorses for her in a specific book stating she “reinvented pop music” erasing real pop innovators.
The problem with Swifties is how they don’t always acknowledge she’s not perfect. Despite the release of Tortured Poets, nonfans can’t even name three songs from that record. Even though the VMAs are fan-voted, it creates an unfair advantage for other artists. “Fortnight” for example winning Video of the Year when no one rarely knew of the song or spoke of its video impact. The song-winning Song of the Summer was also a laugh after the craze that was Sabrina Carpenter’s lead single “Espresso.”
I won’t get into her performing on stage because while she’s not a dancer, she can play instruments. Taylor’s artistry stems from her ability to appeal to a mass white audience and being a songwriter who writes off her insane relationships.
I miss Taylor Swift before she was considered a mainstream pop star. You know, the country artist who wore gowns and didn't fall into the pop addiction. What fell upon Taylor was controversy and having to please her fans. Maybe she’s feeling the pressure of it all, so she overbooks herself with promo so no one complains.
Taylor needs to take a big long vacation. The Eras tour is over and she has enough “versions.” I wish she would take some time to recollect her artistry and not try too hard.
