Post-Grammys: Is the Controversy really Solved?
My brief review of the 67th annual Grammys from the awards and the performances

So, the Grammys aired last night with a humanitarian program. It went on a bit too long, and advocacy ruled the evening. The Weeknd returned to perform, Doechii continued history, and Beyoncé finally won album of the year. Why did a natural finally see a diverse amount of winners sans Taylor Swift?
Maybe the Earth is healing. Will Smith gets to speak at an award show, and become advocates in their speeches, an award show, hey even Stevie Wonder briefly sung “We Are the World.”
There were some winners that I expected to win. Women ruled this year. Sabrina Carpenter winning Best Pop Vocal Album is one I predicted. “Die with a Smile” winning Best Pop Duo/Group performance was highly possible. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars created a catchy ballad that is timely these days. Kendrick Lamar’s awards proved that “Not Like Us” will make a big splash at the Super Bowl. The Best New Artist category could’ve almost gone to anyone. I wished Raye won the recognition, but Chappell’s wasn’t a bad choice.
I think the performers outshined this year more than ever. Sabrina gave us Broadway with an “Espresso/Please Please Please” performance. Bringing performance comedy back. Doechii’s highly choreographed routine made Jay Z blush. Shakira reminded people she’s a belly-dancing Queen. I enjoyed myself thoroughly. The Weeknd’s appearance was a friendly surprise. Of course, he took it as a way to promote his album and upcoming tour. We didn’t need Beyoncé to perform to make the show great. We have memes of her shocked face breaking the internet.
The Quincy Jones performance didn’t flow as well as I’d assume. It started well with Cynthia Erivo’s jazz cover of “Fly Me to the Moon.” Stevie Wonder and Herbie Hancock’s performance was also sweet. It’s funny I was thinking of how we need a We Are the World song and now Stevie wanted to sing it. Hmm…I wonder if that will ever happen. However, after Will Smith’s lengthy monologue ending with a hint of Thriller, it unexpectedly ended with a humorous Off the Wall performance.
The decision to cut it to nine awards was filled with anticipation. Those awards came with updates on LA donations and tributes to local LA businesses. The latter was a beautiful decision that highlighted people in need. One of the surprise moments was watching Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra” music video. Gaga hinted that she’s returning to her roots with a video similar to “Alejandro.” Here’s to Mayhem giving Born This Way quality!
The speeches were also a standout. Doechii and Chappell Roan are the ones who spoke on inclusivity and healthcare. I think it made a few industry people think in their sit. I don’t know how long The Grammys will be socially conscious, but it looks go so far.
What did you think of The Grammys this year?
